High Ceilings Become Extra Space
Brentwood, California
Scope: This growing family was running out of space. Mom needed an office space (that doubles as a kid’s chill-out space), and a new bedroom for their daughter, who will soon be off to college, and her next little brother can move in. Our solution was to add two new spaces within the existing footprint. The ceiling was a very drastic slope in both areas, and it was quite an undertaking to make it all work. We were able to utilize most of the former stair layout and added to the landing and stepped down 2 steps in each area to have the most headroom possible, while still allowing for plenty of space downstairs.
Features: In this home, a new stair layout has been designed to increase headroom at the angled ceiling, and the railing details have been modernized. The stairs now feature wear-resistant carpeting, and RealWood Luxury laminate floors have been installed on the lower floor, new loft, and bedroom. LED can lights and paddle fans with lights have been added for improved lighting and airflow. A beautiful platform landing has been constructed at the stairs, and new operable windows have been installed in the bedroom and at the stairs for loft ventilation.

Client Testamonial: “We had the best experience with Carey Bros Remodeling from start to finish! We had a wonderful time with our designer, and then an excellent time with all the contractors that were on our project. They also did a great job at working with subcontractors and making sure that they lived up to their expectations.” -Kelly T.
