A Space for Mom

Scope: This daughter had us work some magic in her cozy ranch-style home to make room for her mom. We conjured up a gorgeous design to create a comfortable and safe ensuite in the existing home.

Features: The project involved renovating an existing bedroom and constructing a spacious ADA ensuite addition. The new bedroom was equipped with sliding French doors featuring built-in mini-blinds to allow natural light in. An electric wall-mounted fireplace was added to create a cozy atmosphere, and new oak hardwood flooring was installed throughout the entire home. The new bathroom can be accessed through a three-foot (ADA accessible) pocket door and boasts a stained wood double vanity with a stone top. Additionally, extra-large recessed Kohler medicine cabinets with LED lighting were added for increased storage. The Toto ADA toilet is fitted with a bidet seat and a remote control. The curbless shower, equipped with double outswing glass doors for easy chair access, includes a trench drain with a schluter drain cover and a stone pebble tile shower floor. Offering three shower options, including a rain showerhead, a hand shower, and a fixed showerhead, the luxurious shower also features grab bars for safety. In terms of fixtures and accessories, the project incorporated the 90 Degrees line from Moen in brushed nickel, known for its simple and durable design. The wood-look porcelain tile flooring is fitted with a Schluter Ditra Heat and a Schluter “Jolly” edge on the baseboard, ensuring warmth and a polished appearance.
